Description

Learn to ride Group

For this group we will divide them into two girls per session as there is only access to 2 bikes.

Each session will be 1 hour and can be held on an available field at St.Marys.

Once these girls have learned how to ride a bike they need to move onto the 4-week Fundamental course.

They will need to be able to do the following unassisted:

Pedalling, taking off, stopping.

During these sessions the following fundamentals will be covered:

Week 1

  • Balance and Co-ordination
    • Theory into how your bike and body work together
    • Learning how to balance
    • Where to look
    • Getting on and off the bike

Week 2

  • Braking
    • Correct technique
    • Practice controlled braking
    • Combine balance and braking

Week 3

  • Pedaling
    • Foot placement on pedals
    • Taking off
    • Pedalling
    • Combining balance, pedalling and braking

Week 4

  • Basic bike control and assessment to move to the next level

Fundamentals

These girls all can pedal a bike, but I highly recommend that they do a course of Fundamentals.

They all need to be a little more confident to enjoy this part of The Journey.

The Fundamental session covers the essential parts of off-road trail riding including correct braking and gearing which majority of these girls need to learn.

This will be broken down into 4 x 1-hour weekly sessions held at Giba Gorge where bikes can be hired.

6 Girls per session at the most.

Week 1

  • Essentials:
    • Foot position
    • Looking
    • Brakes
    • Climbing and Descending dismounts
    • Theory into how your bike and body work together

Week 2

  • Brake control on descents

Week 3

  • Gearing

Week 4

  • Trail ride to practice what we have learned

If any of the girls that already ride with confidence would like to improve their skills, please contact me privately and we can arrange a group session.

Rides for Fitness

These girls have mastered the fundamentals or are already confident on their bikes but may need some riding and fitness to refresh their muscles.

On the biking side of The Journey, we’ve noticed that many girls struggle with the distance due to limited time spent on their bikes. We highly recommend joining us for a few rides to build endurance and confidence.
